There Is More To Flowers Than Their Beauty

By Allison Norton

Flowers were the first ornaments, long before jewellery came along. Colourful and scented flowers have been fulfilling the objective of beautifying people for thousands of years. In almost all grand civilizations that the world has witnessed, there is evidence of women and sometimes even males wearing flowers in their hair.

Every flower has its own exclusive scent. Humans have categorized flowers according to different emotions or mental dispositions and also to different occasions that the flowers best represent, and to a large extent this has been dependent on their fragrance and looks. Perfume makers have extracted different floral scents and have sealed them in bottles for centuries, and the sheer diversity of these fragrances available in nature has aided them to create an endless variety of perfumes. However, now the demand for flowers in the perfume industry is somewhat falling as artificial ingredients have started substituting them.

The significance of flowers' fragrance is not limited to making perfumes. Flowers have served as wonderful presents for people by virtue of their fragrance and beauty. A room made fragrant by flowers can create positive vibes and can cheer an individual. To an experienced florist, the definition of good bouquets is those that appeal to both the eyes and the sense of smell of a person. Similarly for any auspicious occasion, people use flowers liberally so that the surroundings emanate a naturally pleasant scent.

However, in the quest for more beautiful and long-lasting flowers, horticulturists have over time neglected the importance of fragrance in them. Other innovations in science, such as genetic alteration of plants have hastened this pursuit. For instance, carnations and roses that we find today are flawless in looks and brilliant in freshness, but reckless experimentation with nature has deprived them of their fragile fragrance.

Thus, how good a flower smells, or if it oozes any fragrance at all, must be the first concern for buyers when they are buying flowers. Expert advice of an experienced florist will surely enable you to make the correct choice of bouquets or flowers in a large quantity that you are about to buy for a wedding or some other occasion.

A good florist in Singapore with years of experience in the industry can be located either through the internet or by asking people about it. A florist, who is part of a branded flower selling chain, will also be reliable in most cases. The best quality and the best service are what a large organization guarantees, and this holds true in the flower industry as well.
